THOMASVILLE — A massive search is under way for a suspected sex offender who escaped from the Thomas County Jail Tuesday morning.

Charles Linwood Nix ran from the 921 Smith Ave. facility about 7:15.

"He is a (suspected) sex offender and has a violent past," said Capt. Steven Jones, Thomas County Sheriff's Office public information officer.

A massive search is under way by the sheriff's office, Thomasville police and the Valdosta State Prison canine unit, among other agencies.

Nix, 35, was wearing an all-white jail uniform when he escaped.

He is 5-foot-8 and weighs 145 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call 225-3300 or 225-4151.
