Law enforcement was looking Monday afternoon for a Colquitt County Jail trusty who apparently walked off his cleaning job earlier in the day.
Officials believe that Demetrius Demario Waldon, 32, of Thomas County, left the facility between noon and 1:30 p.m. Waldon had been assigned to cleaning the sheriff’s administration building which houses the business office, top administrators’’ offices and the investigative unit.
He was awaiting trial in Colquitt County on probation and convicted felon in possession of a firearm charges. He also had been charged with child molestation in Thomas County in a case that has not been adjudicated.
“A roaming officer checked on him a littler after 2 and couldn’t find him,” sheriff’s Capt. Julius Cox said Monday afternoon. “Right now we feel like he got a ride out.”
Surrounding counties had been alerted to be watching for Waldon, who has family in Thomas County, Cox said.
Waldon had been at the jail since Nov. 14 of last year.
