Essay contest  this month

The Jackie Robinson Memorial Institute will be holding its 13th annual Jackie Robinson Essay Contest during February.  This year, all sixth graders are eligible to enter a 300-word or less typed essay on the topic, "How has the life of Jackie Robinson made a difference in your life?"

The essays should include the writer's name and address, school attended and the names of their parents or guardians.

Essays should be mailed to P.O. Box 541 in Cairo by Feb. 28. The first-place winner will receive $100 and the second- and third-place winners will receive Jackie Robinson memorabilia.

Career Expo

planned Feb. 20

The Department of Labor and Southwest Georgia Technical College will be sponsoring the 2014 Cairo/Thomasville Career Expo on Thursday, Feb. 20 from 9 a.m.-noon in the Sewell Building D at SWGTC.

A variety of employers and vendors will be on site and people seeking career opportunities are encouraged to come dressed for success and bring copies of their resumes.
