Holiday service

 The Church of Grady County, a newly formed church body in Cairo, invites everyone to a special night of musical worship during a special holiday program on Sunday at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of Southside School.  The church’s praise band will provide holiday and a special reading of the Christmas Story will be featured. Everyone is invited to attend or call Pastor Mike Mobley at 224- 1819.

Watch Night

Faith Temple Church, located at 231 Legion Blvd., SW in Cairo invites everyone to attend its Watch Night Service on Dec.  31 beginning at 10:30 p.m.  There will be special music, prayer and messages as the church helps to say goodbye to the old and welcome in the New Year.

Jewelry Sale

The Ladies Auxiliary at Grady General Hospital will be holding a Jewelry Sale today and Friday.  This is an opportunity to get some great last-minute deals on holiday gifts as you help support the volunteers at Grady General.


MLK Parade forms

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade is scheduled for Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. in Downtown Cairo.

The MLK Collaborative encourages businesses, churches and organizations to enter a float for their chance to win a beautiful trophy.  Pastor Johnny Moore will be the grand marshal for the 2014 parade and keynote speaker for the event.

Entry forms are currently available at the Chamber of Commerce, Designs by Craig or by calling Doug Addison at 377-0984.

The group is also selling t-shirts to raise money for the scholarship fund. You may order your shirt by calling Renee Gee-Theophille at 221-5914. 


Food for Fines

As is an annual Christmas custom, the Roddenbery Memorial Library is accepting non-perishable food items in payment of fines. Patrons will receive a $1 credit toward their current overdue fines for any undamaged, unexpired and unopened boxed or canned food items. All the items will be donated to the local Help Agency.

There is no limit to the number or amount of fines that can be cleared but bills for lost or damaged library items and collection fees are not eligible for the Food for Fines program.

Support group

A new grief recovery support group called GriefShare is  meeting each week on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30p .m. at Faith Christian Center on Hwy 188 in Cairo.

The group is for people who are grieving the death of someone close to them.
