The Grady County School System will be conducting the annual review, evaluation and revision of the LEA Title 1 Parent Involvement Plan for the 2013-2014 school year is at 6 p.m., Aug. 29. at the Vanlandingham Center in downtown Cairo.

All stakeholders (parents, teachers, principals, administrators and community leaders) are encouraged to participate in this process.

Barbecue benefits

There willl be a Gary Jones barbecue fundraiser for the Cairo Senior Cent er on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Plates are $8 and may be picked up at the Center on 17th Avenue, NW from 4 to 6 p.m.

Music will be featured in the sanctuary of the Hilltop Bible Baptist Church, which is located across the street from the Center, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Hinkie Family from Texas will be performing.

American Legion to hold meeting

All area veterans are reminded that the American Legion Post No. 122 meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Cairo Masonic Lodge located behind the courthouse.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all veterans.

 

Cheerleaders      to hold camp

The Cairo High School cheerleaders will be hosting a Junior Cheer Camp for ages five through 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on  Saturday.

The cost is $35 and campers will receive lunch and a T-shirt.  All participants in the camp will also be invited to perform in the pregame show before the Bainbridge football game.

Zebulon event

is Friday night

The Zebulon Theater's "Jewels & Jeans" benefit will be held this Friday night and will feature a live auction of several trips and a silent auction of merchandise and services.

Also, tickets will be sold for $50 for the chance to win a 1/2 carat diamond suspended in a champagne glass.

All proceeds from the event will be used for the Zebulon Theater's conversion to digital fund.

NAACP to hold annual banquet

The Grady County NAACP is holding its annual Freedom Fund Banquet at 7 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Grady Senior Center.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.  If you would like to nominate someone for the Grady County NAACP Man or Woman of the Year, the deadline is Sept. 9.

Sign up for after-school program

The after-school program at Eastside School in Cairo is under way for the school year.

The program provides after school care, snacks and help with homework from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Eastside Elementary School campus through May 22 at a cost of $40 per week.

Courtesy transportation is also available from the other school.
