— Bring in garbage containers

The City of Cairo reminds everyone to remove their garbage container from the right-of-way in a timely manner.  All garbage containers for collection by the sanitation department must be moved from the street to a location off the right-of-way by 7 a.m. on the date following the date of collection.

The continue failure of the customer to remove their container may subject the occupier of the property to a fine.

Empowerment Conference ends

The Great Mt. Calvary First Born Church of the Living God’s 2014 Empowerment Conference ends today. Apostle Jacquelyn Porter of Bainbridge is the speaker.  The service will begin at 7:30 p.m..

Golf tourney     set April 19

The Kevin Walden Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held at the Cairo Golf Club on Saturday, April 19.  There will be an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for the four-person scramble format. The cost is $50 per person and includes cart, green fees, lunch and prizes. All proceeds will benefit the Kevin Walden Memorial Scholarship. To register, call 377-4506.

Annual FFA Plant Sale under way

The Cairo High School Future Farmers of America are currently selling plants at the CHS Greenhouse on school days from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. A variety of  vegetable and flowering plants are available including several varieties of tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Flowering plants for sale include incas, yellow marigolds, salvia, impatience and several colors of petunias. Also available this year will be periwinkles and vinca which can tolerate full sunlight and higher temperatures.  Call Cairo High School at 377-2222 for more information.

Talking books available

The Roddenbery Memorial Library reminds everyone that they have a large variety of talking books and downloads available for the blind and physically handicapped. For more information about how to access these materials, call the library at 377-3632.
