Antique car show

to feature Chrysler

The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce will present its 26th Annual Great Southern Antique Car Show and Rally on Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10. This year's rally is sponsored by Stallings Motors of Cairo and will feature classic Chrysler convertibles of the 1960s. The weekend will feature a dazzling array of historic vehicles, hot rods and classics and is expected to attract more than 150 antique automobiles.  The vintage cars will be featured in a gas light parade on Friday night followed by a street dance. On Saturday, the classic cars will participate in a Auto Poker Rally starting at 9 a.m. and will return to Davis Park for display and judging.  if you would like more information about the rally, call the chamber of commerce at 377-3663.

Library seeking book donations

If you would like to donate your delicately used books, the Roddenbery Memorial Library needs them. The books will either go into the collection or be sold in the library's used book store, which is open every other Saturdaysfrom 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please drop off your books to the library during regular business hours.

Autism Awareness month fundraiser

On Wednesday, you are invited to light it up blue in support of Autism Awareness Month by wearing blue. A $200 Walmart Gas Card Raffle is being held this week with tickets on sale for $5 each or 3 for $10. The drawing will be held Wednesday and all money raised will help with funding for more educational tools and awareness needed in the Grady County School System for autistic children. Tickets are available for purchase at Strands Hair Salon and the Cairo Police Department.

Young Life to

sponsor car wash

Grady County Young Life will sponsor its 3rd Annual Car Wash and Yard Sale on Saturday, in the parking lot of the Cairo Messenger.  The event will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Young Life leaders and friends will be washing cars and selling lots of great items and all proceeds will to to help local students attend summer camp at Windy Gap in Weaverville, N.C., this summer.  For more information or to donate goods for the yard sale, call 220-1210 or send an email to:
