Auxiliary to hold jewelry sale
The Grady General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary will hold a jewelry sale in the front lobby of Grady General Hospital on Thursday and Friday.
Everyone is invited to come and choose from wonderful gifts for the holidays and support your local hospital.
Christmas Follies is this weekend
The Syrup City Players will present the third Annual Cairo Christmas Follies on Friday and Saturday at the Zebulon Theater in Cairo.
The old-fashioned Christmas variety show will feature more than 20 acts, including singers, dancers, comedians, holiday plays, musicians and more.
The full Follies shows will be held on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a special children's matinee on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. featuring music, games, puppets, storytelling and more.
Advanced tickets are on sale at Miss Myrts and Center Drugs in Cairo.
First Methodist hold carnival
The Cairo Winter Carnival and missions fundraiser is Saturday at the First United Methodist Church.
Everyone is invited to come kick off the Christmas season with an afternoon full of adventure and cheer, all for a good purpose. There will be snowball fights, live music, Christmas carolling, pictures with Santa, an obstacle course, jousting arena, bungee runs, cupcake walks, activity booths and more.

Christmas parade Thursday night
The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Merchants Association present the annual Cairo Christmas Parade on Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. It will from the chamber to the First United Methodist Church.
The theme for this year's parade is "The Joy of Christmas Toys.” The parade will feature 78 entries.
Rotary Club to sell chili, pilau
The Cairo Rotary Club will be selling hot chili and chicken pilau dinners before and during the Cairo Christmas Parade Thursday.
The club will have booths set up in front of Blough Tech Computers and beside Grady Finance Company and will be selling your choice of a bowl of chili or pilau and a soft drink for $5.
All proceeds will be used to help fund community projects.
Register now for youth basketball
The Grady County Recreation Department is holding registration for Instructional League Basketball now through Dec. 16.
There will be four age groups: 5/6, 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12. The cost for registration is $15. Registration will be held at the Rec Department office on the Pelham Highway weekdays from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Library accepting food for fines
As is an annual Christmas custom, the Roddenbery Memorial Library will be accepting non-perishable food items in payment of fines like overdue materials through December. Patrons will receive a $1 credit towards their current overdue fines for any undamaged, unexpired and unopened boxed or canned food items.
All the items will be donated to the local Help Agency. There is no limit to the number or amount of fines that can be cleared, but bills for lost or damaged library items and collection fees are not eligible for the Food for Fines program.
Grief support group meets
A new grief recovery support group, GriefShare, is meeting each week on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Faith Christian Center on Hwy. 188 in Cairo.
The group is for people who are grieving the death of someone close to them. For more information, call Lavonia Carter at 397-0281.
American Legion holds meetings
All area veterans are reminded that the American Legion Post No. 122 meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Cairo Masonic Lodge located behind the courthouse.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all veterans.
Work-based learning at CHS
If you are a business owner who might be interested in hiring a student this school year, the Work-Based Learning program at Cairo High School has more than 55 juniors and seniors who are looking for work opportunities. Each student accepted into the program must receive excellent teacher recommendations, meet high academic and behavior criteria and have an identifiable career goal.
