The Grady General Hospital Ladies Auxilliary will hold a Jewelry Sale in the Front Lobby of Grady General Hospital on Dec. 5-6. Everyone is invited to come and choose from wonderful gifts for the holidays and support your local hospital.
The Cairo Winter Carnival and missions fundraiser will be held on Dec. 7 at Cairo First United Methodist Church. Everyone is invited to come kick off the Christmas season with an afternoon full of adventure and cheer, all for a good purpose. There will be snowball fights, live music, Christmas carolling, pictures with Santa, an obstacle course, jousting arena, bungee runs, cupcake walks, activity booths and more. Closed for the holidays
The City of Cairo offices and the Grady County Offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday and Friday. Normal business hours will resume on Monday. The landfill will also be closed through Saturday.
The Grady County Recreation Department will have registration for Instructional League Basketball through Dec. 16. There will be four age groups: 5/6, 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12. The cost for registration is $15. Registration will be held at the Rec Department office on the Pelham Highway weekdays from 8:30-5:30pm.
Cairo Christmas Follies
The Syrup City Players will present their 3rd Annual Cairo Christmas Follies on Dec. 6-7 at the Zebulon Theater. Both shows will start at 7:30 p.m. A special children's matinee presented by Grady County Young Life is set on Dec. 7 at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $12 for adults and $8 for seniors and students if purchased in advance at Miss Myrts and Center Drugs. All tickets at the door the night of the shows will go for $12.
The Christmas Follies is an old-fashioned community celebration of the holidays with local singing groups, soloist, musicians, dancers and actors in a fun variety show format.

Food for Fines
As is an annual Christmas custom, the Roddenbery Memorial Library will be accepting non-perishable food items in payment of fines like overdue materials during November and December. Patrons will receive a $1 credit towardstheir current overdue fines for any undamaged, unexpired and unopened boxed or canned food items. All the items will be donated to the local Help Agency. There is no limit to the number or amount of fines that can be cleared but bills for lost or damaged library items and collection fees are not eligible for the Food for Fines program.
Grief support group
A new grief recovery support group called GriefShare is meeting each week on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Faith Christian Center on Hwy 188 in Cairo. he group is for people who are grieving the death of someone close to them.

All area veterans are reminded that the American Legion Post 122 meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Cairo Masonic Lodge located behind the courthouse. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all veterans
