— ‘Boo on Broad’   Thursday

The Downtown Merchants Association and the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce have arranged to have South Broad Street closed for “Boo on Broad” in Downtown Cairo on Halloween afternoon, Thursday.

There will be safe trick or treating from 3 p.m.-5 p.m., free kids costume photos taken at the Roddenbery Memorial Library, plus a free showing of the movie “Hotel Transylvania” shown at the Zebulon Theater at 5:30 p.m.

Parents will also receive valuable coupons that may be used during the holiday season.

golf tourney

The 14th Annual Golf Classic, sponsored by the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Cairo Country Club.

The cost is $240 for a four person team. Check in begins at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. There will be various prizes including a hole-in-one contest with a chance to win $10,000.

Eastside Baptist   to hold revival

Eastside Baptist Church in Cairo will be having its annual fall revival Sunday through Nov. 6 with a different guest speaker for each service.

Services are at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., Sunday with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Cloud as the guest speaker.

Services Monday through Wednesday will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature the Rev. Chad Cooper on Monday, the Rev. Jim Weaver on Tuesday and the Rev. Al Sessions on Wednesday.

The theme for the revival is “Dare to Be Transformed” and everyone is invited to attend.


Class of 1978

to hold reunion

Members of the Cairo High School Class of 1978 will hold their 35-year reunion on Saturday following Mule Day. The class will begin to meet at 6 p.m. at the Syrup City Seafood and Grill.

Grief support group meets

A new grief recovery support group called 'GriefShare' is now meeting each week on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Faith Christian Center on Hwy. 188 in Cairo.

The group is for people who are grieving the death of someone close to them.  For more information, call Lavonia Carter at 397-0281.

Historical Society plans auction

Members of the Grady County Historical Society are making their plans for the sixth annual Silent Auction. It gets under way on Nov. 12.

All the proceeds from the annual auctions are invested in the maintenance and operation of the Grady County Museum and History Center.

If you would like to donate an item to be auctioned, contact any member of the Historical Society.


Register now for Christmas parade

Although it is more than two months away, the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce has begun taking registration for this year's Cairo Christmas Parade which will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5 in downtown Cairo. Applications for the parade are available at the Chamber of Commerce and are due no later than Nov. 8.

Legion holds monthly meeting

All area veterans are reminded that the American Legion Post No. 122 meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Cairo Masonic Lodge located behind the courthouse.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all veterans.

WMS discount cards on sale

The Washington Middle School PTO members are currently selling discount cards to raise money for programs to provide incentives for students, academic achievement, to reward exemplary behavior and provide tokens of appreciation to teachers.

The cards, which featured discount to many of Grady County's businesses, cost $5 each and may be purchased from WMS studens or at the Washington Middle School Office.


Program seeking employers

If you are a business owner who might be interested in hiring a student the Work-Based Learning program at Cairo High School has more than 35 juniors and seniors who are looking for work opportunities.

Each student accepted into the program must receive excellent teacher recommendations, meet high academic and behavior criteria and have an identifiable career goal.
