Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 439 W. Railroad Ave., Boston, will observe the church’s 148th anniversary Monday through Sunday, April 13, when St. John AME Church will close the festivities at 3 p.m., with dinner served after the service. Weeknight services are at 7:30.


Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church will celebrate the church’s 134th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Charles Moore and New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Coolidge will be in charge of the service. Dinner will be served.

 Strawder to speak

The Rev. Cecil Strawder, of Albany, will be the guest minister at Paradise Missionary Baptist Church, 1446 S. Pine Tree Blvd., at 11 a.m. Sunday.

BBQ Cookoff

The First Newark Baptist BBQ Church Cookoff is set for April 12. Proceeds from the event at the church at 225 Russell Road will go to Compassion to the Nations, a locally based missions organization.

Participants will be allowed to sell their barbecue chicken and/or pork. The church is requesting that 10 percent of the proceeds be donated to Compassion to the Nations.

Suggested prices are samples ($1), sandwiches ($3) and plates with sides ($5).

Prizes will be awarded. The entry fee is $20.
