The Lambda Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated will celebrate the organization’s 106th anniversary on Sunday, at First Missionary Baptist Church at 3 p.m. The speaker will be Jacqulyn Saunders, a member of the organization.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is an international service organization that was founded Jan. 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard University. The current international theme is “Global Leadership through Timeless Service” with signature initiatives that focus on health, youth, economic security and preserving the environment. The local chapter reaches out to the youth of the community with its youth programs-Emerging Young Leaders (EYL), which targets young girls in grades 6-8 and Teens in Action, which targets young ladies in grades 9-12. Lambda Xi Omega Chapter also gives scholarships annually to qualified high school and college students.
