Hope, prayer for a brighter future

It is almost here — the year 2014. To simply be alive and well is a precious gift from God. To be sure, we may all have some apprehension about our future as a nation and a civilization. Ominous clouds hang over us politically, morally, economically and internationally. Indeed, the spiritual needs of America have never been more desperate or foreboding.

I remain distressed because the bedrock of these United States has been eroding more and more rapidly. I am speaking of a people and a nation based on faith in God and founded on Judeo-Christian principles as found in the Bible.

In the name of political correctness, we have less and less of the right to exercise our religious heritage in the marketplace of our society. We seem to be going faster and faster, but we don’t seem to be aware of where we are going and the awful consequences of our journey. When, in the name of human rights, we lift the barriers from God’s expressed commands and when our goals become to produce a mediocre people, we have turned the values and morals of our nation topsy-turvy.

Equality is true only in the sight of God. I cannot change the fact that I am 5-foot-8 and weigh 145 pounds on a heavy day. I can wish or wonder why I could not be 6-6 and weight 275. It’s the way God made me and all I can do is the best I can with the tools I have.

God wants us to have freedom, but freedom within the prescribed boundaries of what He knows are in the best interest of mankind and civilization. We are in the image of God and are more than mere animals who live by the law of the jungle. We cannot legislate people into self-motivation or self-respect.

It is my hope and prayer that this coming year will have some brightening of our future and the future of our children and our children’s children.

When God is put first and personal responsibility is promoted, the fog of secularized living will be lifted and the “Son” will shine again.
