God can heal your brokenness

— I have been fighting some symptoms long enough that I decided I couldn't ignore them any longer and called an “expert” (doctor) who put me on a medication so I can get healed. I like feeling healthy! I could have continued to hope the symptoms would just go away (sometimes they do!) and just put up with not feeling good but, after a while, that is just not the wise thing to do.

If you have a broken bone and don't get it set right, it may cause you pain and/or trouble for a long time, even disabling you from functioning as you should.

The same is true with our souls. Sin and the fallen nature have broken us and if we do not seek the Healer, we will remain a spiritual cripple. We receive a measure of healing and freedom when we are born-again, but we would be foolish to think that we do not need more healing.

What I have found out over the years is that God seems to heal us a little at a time. As revelation comes, we see that generational curses, negative family inheritances, relational hurts, etc., need to be healed. I am far more whole today than I was even a few years ago. I could probably fill every line of copy in this newspaper with areas the Lord has dealt with my brokenness. And I am quite certain, He is not finished yet!

Recently, the Lord began to reveal another area He was ready to deal with in my life. I am going to be very transparent because I want everyone reading this have confidence in the Lord's desire to continue the process, probably until we take our last breath! He loves us so much and wants us to be whole so we, too, can be healers. We can give hope to those who are still very broken, but who want to be whole.

I have been reading Proverbs for all of my Christian walk and it continues to speak to me. I was reading chapter 15 (on the 15th of this month) and several verses were highlighted to me in a convicting way. I like to be in control, make decisions (after all I am a business owner, I am in charge!) but I have had a difficult time receiving what the scripture calls “constructive criticism” (verses 31-32). I used to have a problem with rejection – not feeling good enough, comparing myself with others, etc. I found out where that came from — some things from my early childhood — and dealt with it. It manifested itself in an unhealthy way, being a people pleaser and fearing what others thought. It affected my decisions and actions. Now the Lord has decided to take that healing a little deeper. If you have an infection and do not get it out, it will continue to fester and will never heal properly. It can even become life threatening if not tended to properly.

Recently, I was reading a book and the author made a statement that confirmed what the Lord had been showing me from this portion of His word. “When you are healed and made whole, corrective criticism will catapult you into your destiny.  Corrective criticism, when based in love, will enable you to take the short cut to success.” I am positioning myself to move into the next phase of the destiny the Lord planned for my life, from before the foundations of the world! I want to walk in humility and have a teachable spirit so that when someone who has my best interests at heart speaks to me, I can receive godly correction and corrective criticism. Once you become aware of an area that the Lord wants to heal, He will make it quite obvious that you can only do this in His power, not your own.

Do you have an area of brokenness that the Lord is putting His healing hand upon? He just needs your permission to do what is necessary for making that area whole. Sometimes it is uncomfortable while the process is going on, but the end results are worth it — wholeness. Put yourself in the good hands of our gracious Healer!
