Secret to our spiritual understanding

If you have ever taken a journalism class ,you have heard about the five W’s and one H of a story.  Most instructors will tell you the story is not complete until all six questions have been answered.  The story of faith is no exception.  To be fully engaged in our faith we have to answer these questions to the fullest. The answers are most complete from Biblical and historical study, as well as, eye witness reports.

Who was involved? The writing and institution of the story was a joint effort between God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.  Each part of the Trinity had a specific assignment in the creation and implementation of the salvation story. Humanity was the recipient of the story.

What happened? God the Father sent his son to the earth to become one of us.  Jesus was to be like us in every way.  He was to suffer temptations and live among people who said harsh and critical things. He was to feel loneliness, pain, rejection, want and need. He was to experience mankind’s need for a savior.

Where did it take place? In a little town called Bethlehem, Jesus was born. He worked with his earthly father as a carpenter in Nazareth for about 30 years before going into full-time ministry.  Most of the story happens in the villages of Israel and Judah. Jesus also ministered in the surrounding areas of Samaria. It happened on the hillsides, in the temple and along the roads of Israel as Jesus traveled, taught and loved people.

Why did it happen? The salvation story was necessary because sin had separated mankind from their creator God.  The gulf between God and man was so great that mankind was forbidden from the presence of God. Jesus became the mediator, the bridge across the gulf, between God and humanity.  He became the redeemer, the one who could restore the order, peace and relationship of God’s initial plan of fellowship with humanity.

How did it happen? It happened as Jesus laid down his life, was crucified, buried for the sins of mankind on Calvary’s hill. With his blood, he became the final sacrifice for sin. His supernatural resurrection by the power of the Holy Spirit ushered in the New Covenant of grace. It happened in God’s time, concurrent with Jesus’s surrender to the will of His father.  The story of salvation happened, fully and completely through the divine gift of love, mercy and forgiveness.

The story is ours, mine and yours. It is a best-seller and one that will never grow old or dated no matter what someone might say. It is an eternal story of love and redemption that answers all the “who, what, where, why and how’s” of life.  It is the greatest story ever told.  Make it yours today.
