We’ll live forever

Regarding death, there are basically two schools of thought. The vast majority of people believe in immortality or some kind of life after death. Those who hold to the opposite view believe this life is all there is. They believe when you die, you cease to exist.

It is interesting to note that in virtually every culture and religion on earth, the thought and hope of eternal life exists. It seems mankind is created with a desire for immortality and since that is not possible in our human form, our very nature seeks a supernatural answer to this innate longing.

Some religions teach a doctrine of reincarnation. They believe when you die, you are recreated in some other form of life on this earth. Some others believe in karma. This is a state based on a person’s actions in this life.

Mankind, since the time of creation, sought for an answer. In God’s time, he became one of us in the form of a man, Jesus Christ. Jesus is God’s final revelation and answer to our human hope for eternal life. The historical accounts of Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection are the basis for believers’ hope for immortality in a prepared place called heaven.

The Gospel is the good news that we can live forever. No verse is better known nor more universally quoted than John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but everlasting life.” (KJV)

There is no way to settle our hunger for eternal life than by faith in God’s truth as revealed in the Bible.

When I stand beside a casket over an open grave, I can read with absolute certainty that death is not the victor, nor does it have the final word. Paul wrote, “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. Buts thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians 15:55-57, KJV)
