Loving mothers are God’s angels

It is my observation that a mother’s love is the closest thing on earth to God’s love. I know father’s love, too; but, even though it takes a father and mother to conceive a child, it is the mother alone who allows a baby to grow in her body. She is unique in the family in experiencing the movement of her baby.

The love of a mother transcends the labor, care, worry and struggles of nurturing an infant and living her life in such a way that the very life of her child is dependent on her dedication to her role as a mother. There is no way with scientific accuracy, we can prove how a mother’s love for her child, including her affection, discipline, encouragement and home training affects the development of the life she cradles in her arms. Most observers of human history conclude that mothers are the most influential power in the development of a child and in the future success of the lives of their offspring.

Of all the days we have for celebrating special events and people, Mother’s Day is almost as holy as Christmas or Easter. In my opinion, this day is sacred in the sense that the Bible elevates motherhood to the highest level by choosing Mary to be the mother of Jesus. No higher compliment could be paid to mothers than to bear children as a divine privilege.

For all mothers, living or dead, we say thank you for our being alive, for loving us when we did not deserve it, for suffering for our well being and for interceding at the throne of grace for God’s mercy on our lives. Loving mothers are God’s angels ever hovering in their spirit over our lives . . . all of our lives.
