God is listening

The greatest source of comfort in my life is the privilege of prayer. Jesus said, “. . . men ought always to pray and not to faint.” (Luke 18:1) Paul echoed this command, “pray without ceasing.” (I Thess. 5:17) Our Lord, the perfect son of God, felt the need to pray. He prayed when he desired the power of divine miracles. He prayed when he was humanly tired. He prayed for supernatural wisdom. He prayed before he suffered. He prayed while he suffered. His life was one of constant prayer. If Jesus needed to pray and taught his disciples to pray and taught them how to pray, it is imperative that we should pray.

Unfortunately, some people believe prayer is only accomplished when we verbally express praise or thanksgiving or requests to God. This is not true. Paul wrote, “. . . for we know not when we should pray for as we ought: but the spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered.” (Rom. 8:26)

A mere thought turned toward God is an eloquent petition before God’s throne of mercy. Expressing thanksgiving to God is an awareness that every good and perfect gift is from above. In the testing times  of life, in season and out of season, worried, anxious, helpless and hopeful, the mighty power of God is as close as breath itself. He hears every whisper, audible or inaudible and he cares, envelopes us in his grace, love and mercy. He is listening right now for your prayers and mine.
