Remember, you have company in the fire

One of the great Old Testament stories which has been a comfort to me is the experience of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego when they were thrown into the burning, fiery furnace. These were men of God, and yet, they were subjected to the horror of anticipated physical suffering.

The Bible records the amazement of the wicked king, Nebuchadnezzar. He looked into the furnace and was astonished, “...’Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered, and said unto the king, ‘True, O king.’ He answered and said, ‘Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God’” (Daniel 3:24-25).

It may not be literal fire to which we are subjected, but virtually all people, at one time or another, go through experiences of emotional struggle, heartbreak, grief, worry, and anxiety which may be the result of physical illness, family problems, financial issues, regrets, emotional wounds or many other psychological hurts.

God does not promise us immunity to these human problems.

We will all do well to remember there is one with us who is “the Son of God.”
