Narcotics agents make bust in Lexus

By Patti Dozier

THOMASVILLE — Following a tip that a Lexus might be the site of a drug stash, narcotics agents found the automobile midafternoon Tuesday at a Smith Avenue business.

Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division agents learned Kevin Jerod Ridgeway, 28, 1213 Hope St., Atlanta, was selling powder and crack cocaine in the Cecil Street area off Smith Avenue.

“We’d also received information she was assisting him in selling cocaine,” division commander Kevin Lee said, in reference to Anna Tate McGehee, 22, 2005 E. Pine Tree Blvd.

McGehee was the Lexus driver, with Ridgeway the passenger, when agents spotted the car Tuesday afternoon.

When agents opened the passenger door, they observed a $100 slab of crack cocaine in Ridgeway’s lap, Lee said. A small amount of crack cocaine was found on McGehee.

“We also found a quantity of powder cocaine in her purse,” the commander said.

A further search of the vehicle produced 14 bags of crack cocaine and 10 bags of the powder form of the contraband under a rear floor mat.

McGehee and Ridgeway were charged with cocaine possession with intent to distribute. McGehee, who was released from the Thomas County Jail on a $6,500 bond, also was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession.

Bond was denied for Ridgeway, who also is charged with marijuana possession with intent to distribute.

Because Ridgeway had been frequenting a residence in the 100 block of Cecil, lawmen searched an outbuilding at the house and discovered small soup cups believed to be used for converting powder cocaine to the crack form.

Lee said agents also found baking soda and a hot plate, both of which are used in the cocaine-conversion process.

A well-trodden path behind the outbuilding led to a utility-type trailer.

“Underneath the trailer was a bag containing 153 grams of marijuana. It was individually packaged,” Lee said.

The bag is being processed for fingerprints.
