Meat-selling venture leads to wanted man

Teresa Williams

CAIRO — A truck with a freezer on the back turned out to be carrying more than just meat in Grady County Monday.

Grady County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Daniel Singletary said Wednesday law enforcement was contacted by a citizen who noticed a suspicious vehicle on Old Hwy. 84 (toward Whigham) at a residence approximately 1:55 p.m. Deputies made contact with a green 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck with three occupants, who said they were selling beef for Midwestern, an Albany-based company with employees who sell meat door-to-door.

Johnny Senn Jr., 18, Lakieth Boswell, 17, and Roy Bolton, 41, were arrested and questioned.

The remains of a marijuana blunt and a .22 rifle (behind the seat) were also found in the vehicle.

Further investigation uncovered Bolton is a sex offender who was incarcerated for several years (cumulatively) on child molestation and enticing child-indecent purpose charges. He also has a record of assaulting law enforcement officers, Singletary said.

“We don’t want that around our county,” he added. “We’ve got enough here already.”

It was also uncovered Bolton was wanted by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office on a probation violation for a misdemeanor charge (traffic offense).

Singletary said Midwestern was contacted and he was told the company had no idea Bolton was a sex offender and he would be terminated.

Senn and Boswell were released without being charged because Bolton was the person supposedly in possession of the marijuana. Bolton was not charged in Grady County, but extradited to Barrow County.

Singletary said Bolton was not charged for marijuana because it was a small amount and a misdemeanor; nor was he charged for a convicted felon in possession of firearm because it could not be proven he knew the gun was there.

“In light of the fact the guy is dangerous and has a record of assaulting law enforcement officers and child molestation, we decided not to charge him here but to extradite him back to Barrow County,” he said. “He could be a danger to our citizens and we don’t want him here. All three were also advised to not come back to Grady County soliciting.”
