Woman charged in forgeries, burglaries

THOMASVILLE — A 20-year-old woman charged last week with a number of check forgeries is being held without bond on two burglary charges.
Candice Leann Taylor, 411 Skyline Drive, told a Thomas County Sheriffs’ Office investigator she has a drug problem.
Taylor took her grandparents’ and boyfriend’s mother’s checkbooks and forged numerous checks, said investigator David Godwin.
The case involves more than 20 forged checks ranging in amounts from a few dollars to more than $300, Godwin said.
The investigator said Taylor has been charged with four counts of forgery, but many more counts will be presented when the case is considered by a grand jury for indictment.
The suspect was released last week on her own recognizance.
On Tuesday, Godwin and sheriff’s office investigator Jason Carroll said Taylor has been charged with two residential burglaries.
Bond was denied, and Taylor remains in the Thomas County Jail.
On Wednesday, May 14, Taylor was seen entering a residence on North Brayton Street in Ochlocknee. A pork loin, McIntosh Xbox games and machinery were reported missing from the house.
Godwin said the games and machinery were recovered at a local pawn shop. The meat was not recovered.
Taylor also has been charged with an April burglary in the 2500 block of Ga. 188 in Ochlocknee.
Carroll said construction tools, a generator and an air compressor taken in the burglary were found at two Thomasville pawn shops.
Investigators think others are involved in the forgeries and in the burglaries.
“We are continuing our investigation on other participants involved with it,” Carroll said.
