City to release recreation SPLOST allotments

Staff report

THOMASVILLE — Local municipalities are expected to receive some anticipated funds this week.

On Tuesday, City of Thomasville Mayor David Lewis will be hosting a “Mayoral Luncheon” with representatives from the cities of Barwick, Boston, Coolidge, Meigs, Pavo and Ochlocknee.

The purpose of the luncheon is distributing Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST, monies collected on behalf of these municipalities, City of Thomasville Chief Financial Officer Mike Russell said.

In accordance with the May 16, 2006, SPLOST Intergovernmental Agreement, these monies are earmarked for the purpose of funding “Recreation Facilities Improvements” within Thomas County.

The funds have been appropriated to each of the cities based on the recommendations of the Thomasville-Thomas County Recreation Advisory Board, Russell said.

The Times-Enterprise will have follow-up coverage on the luncheon next week.
