Small towns prepared for candidate qualifying

THOMASVILLE — The general election is more than two months away, but those who want to seek offices in Thomas County’s small towns must qualify this week.

The candidate-qualifying period also will open Monday in Whigham in Grady County.

Boston

Candidates should qualify at city hall between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The position of Boston mayor and two council seats will be decided in the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election.

Danny Groover is incumbent mayor, while Bettie Harris and Bertha Hunter hold council seats to be decided.

The fee to qualify to run for mayor is $60, and $30 is the fee for council seats.

Barwick

The mayoral post and two city council seats also are up for re-election in Barwick.

Ned Simmons is the incumbent mayor. City council seats held by Dorothy Beatty and Carl Griffin will be decided in November.

Qualifying is at city hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The fee to run for mayor is $27 and $15 for council seats.
