Qualifying kicks off with 14 candidates

THOMASVILLE — Qualifying for numerous seats in local city governments kicked off with 14 candidates signing up Monday.
Persons qualified for either mayoral or city council positions.
Only two persons qualified in Thomasville, both incumbents, City Clerk Kathleen Vinson.
These candidates are Max Beverly for Thomasville City Council and John Everett for Thomasville City Board of Education.
“If persons have intentions of running for political office, they need to come down and qualify as soon as they have made that decision,” Vinson said. “I’m hoping to have a busier day tomorrow.”
Fees are $234 for the city council or $35 for the school board.
Qualifying is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the city administration building located at 111 Victoria Place, but is closed 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Two persons qualified in Boston, assistant city clerk Tina Godwin said.
Beverly Collins qualified for council member and Ron Collins qualified for mayor
Fees are $60 for mayor or $30 for council. Candidates should qualify at city hall between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Friday.
One person qualified for mayor in Barwick, Walt Yost for mayor.
Qualifying is at city hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and fees are $27 for mayor or $15 for the council.
In Coolidge, two incumbents qualified: Diane H. Causey for mayor and Willie Henderson for council member.
Fee is $54 for mayor or $27 for a council seat. Candidates should qualify at city hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday.
New candidates Andrew Wurst and Viva Bass both qualified for mayor of Meigs, a city hall representative said Monday.
