Couple denied bond in Thomas County meth case

THOMASVILLE — A Grady County couple indicted in May in a Thomas County methamphetamine case has been denied bond in a new meth case here.

Heather and Kyle Bass, both 29, of 1302 Ga. 93 North, Cairo, were arrested during surveillance of someone on Powell Dive in another case.

The Basses were indicted by a Thomas County grand jury in May on charges of prohibition against presence of children during manufacturing of methamphetamine, manufacture of methamphetamine and possession of ephedrine. Mr. Bass also was indicted on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The couple was out on bond when Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division agents began receiving information recently that the Basses were using and selling meth.

While someone else was under surveillance, agents saw the Basses drive by and initiated a traffic stop.

“It took a while for them to stop,” said Kevin Lee, narcotics/vice commander. “There was a lot of movement between the two.”

The Honda Accord eventually stopped. The couple was removed.

“Heather Bass was acting very nervous,” Lee explained.

When agents informed Bass they would call a female officer to search her, she said she had methamphetamine in her pocket.

Both Basses are charged with methamphetamine possession. They are being held at the Thomas County Jail.

“It’s common to see this among meth users,” Lee said. “They usually revert back to it for one reason or another.”
