THOMASVILLE — A case that will go before Grady County grand jurors Monday involves nine counts of child molestation-related charges against a 31-year-old Cairo man.

The suspect, Jason Lee Plymel, 3204 Highway 188, Cairo, faces three similar charges in Thomas County.

In Grady County, Plymel is charged with three counts each of child molestation, aggravated child molestation and aggravated sodomy.

Charges in Thomas County are aggravated child molestation, child molestation and sodomy/aggravated sodomy.

Grady County incidents involved in the charges occurred between August 2006 and June 2008, while in Grady County, offenses took place between June 2007 and November 2007, said Ronnie Thompson, special agent in charge of the Thomasville Regional office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation

The GBI is investigating cases in both counties.

Offenses allegedly began when the female victim, now 12, was eight, according to Chris Luckey, a Grady County Sheriff’s Office investigator.

“The victim is the same (in both counties),” Thompson explained. The incidents occurred at Thomas and Grady residences where the child lived, he said.

“The Thomas County case was revealed while we were working the Grady County case,” Thompson said.

Luckey said the child’s mother contacted Grady authorities.

The mother and victim now live in Florida. The mother contacted an agency there after her daughter began to experience behavioral problems, Luckey said.

After seeking professional help for the girl, the mother learned molestation might be the reason for the behavior, the investigator said.

Agencies in Florida have been working with Grady investigators.

Plymel was being held in the Grady County Jail when Thomas charges were filed this week. He was transported to the Thomas County Jail to be booked and arraigned Wednesday, but refused arraignment in the absence of his attorney.

The suspect was returned to Grady County and remained in the Grady County Jail Friday afternoon.
