Drug suspect denied bond

Patti Dozier

THOMASVILLE — A man with a lengthy record of drug arrests is in jail again, charged once more with drug offenses.

Bond was denied for Cleveland Walker Jr., 33, 104 Wilson St., who was charged Friday with cocaine possession with intent to distribute, cocaine possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, misdemeanor marijuana possession and obstruction by resisting arrest.

Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division agents and a Thomas County Sheriff’s Office deputy saw Walker standing by a pickup truck in the parking lot of a convenience store Friday at West Jackson Street and Pine Tree Boulevard.

“The deputy approached from the front. We approached from the rear,” said Kevin Lee, narcotics/vice commander.

When agents reached Walker, he was struggling on the ground with the deputy.

“His hat was on the hood of the truck. We found a bag of marijuana in the hat,” Lee explained.

A marijuana cigar was found on the ground, along with a snuff can containing several pieces of crack cocaine several feet away.

Lee said it was raining, but the snuff can was dry.

Thomas County Jail records show Walker was charged in March with two counts of cocaine possession with intent to distribute, sale of cocaine and marijuana possession with intent to distribute.

Other arrests include:

• May 2001 — Marijuana possession with intent to distribute, cocaine possession with intent to distribute

• November 2001 — Cocaine possession with intent to distribute

• August 2008 — Driving under the influence

In October 2002, Walker was sentenced to five years in prison.
