THOMASVILLE — Today

12:30 p.m. — Thomasville Kiwanis Club meets at the Plaza Restaurant.

Monday

11 a.m. — The Plantation Manor Family Caregiver Dementia Support Group will meet at Plantation Manor. First Baptist Church Minister of Music Andy Daughtry is the speaker. For  information, call Betty Sawyer at 227-0880.

5:30 p.m. — Ochlocknee City Council is holding its regular monthly meeting at Ochlocknee City Hall.

6:30 p.m. — The Thomasville Shrine Club will hold  its regular monthly meeting at the Shrine Club building on U.S. 19 South. A covered dish dinner follows fellowship at 7. A special program  is planned. All members are urged to attend and bring prospective members and guests. Thomasville Shrine Club is a member of Hasan Shrine Center located in Albany.

Tuesday

6 p.m. — Overeaters Anonymous meets at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in the Guild Room. There are no dues or fees and is open to men and women. For information, call 226-0556 or 377-4995.

Thursday

10 a.m. — Golden K Kiwanis Club meets at Dawson Street Baptist Church.

12:15 p.m. — The Thomasville Rotary Club meets at the Plaza.

5:45 p.m. — Early bird Bingo games, sponsored by the Kouncil Club of Thomasville, are at St. Augustine Catholic Church social hall. Regular Bingo sessions begin at 6:45. Prizes awarded and proceeds go to local charities of southwest Georgia.

6 p.m. — Cairo New Beginnings Group of Overeaters Anonymous meets at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 11th Ave. N.W., Cairo. For information, call Aileen at 378-0341 or Brenda at 377-4995.



Miscellaneous

Applications for scholarships offered by Women's Forum of Thomas County are available at Thomasville High School, Thomas County Central High School, Brookwood School, Christian Homeschool Association of Regional Thomasville and Bishop Hall. The scholarships are open to females, who are high school seniors and are $500 each. For information, contact the schools' guidance counselors. Deadline to turn in paperwork is March 15.

The CASA Kids Program is recruiting volunteers interested in becoming Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused children that enter the juvenile court systems in Thomas and Brooks counties. The next training begins mid-March. For information, call 225-4338.

A new divorced and separated support group meets at Cairo Presbyterian Church, 100 4th Ave. SE, at 7 p.m., Tuesdays. For information, call Richard Hartsfield at 229-328-0906. The only requirement for participation is that you be divorced and/or separated.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Monday for big book study, beginners meetings are held at 8 p.m., Tuesday and 8 p.m., Saturday is open discussion all at Trinity Anglican Church on West Jackson Street. At noon, on Wednesday is big book study and Friday is open discussion both at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Al-Anon meets at 8 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays at Trinity Anglican Church. The Thomasville group meets at 8 p.m., Monday which is a closed big book meeting. At 8 p.m., Tuesday is an open beginners meeting and at 8 p.m., Saturday is open discussion all held at Trinity Anglican Church. It's in the Book group, a closed men's meeting at 7 p.m., Wednesday at 7 p.m., Friday, is a closed big book step study at New Generation Church. A closed meeting is at 1 p.m., Wednesdays at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.

Alcoholics Anonymous (Grace Group) holds a closed meeting at noon, Wednesday which is big book study and Friday is open discussion at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 216 Remington Ave.

The Cairo Al-anon Family Group offers help and hope. No fees, dues, or registration required. The meetings are at 3351 U.S. Hwy. 84 East, Cairo. For more information, contact Mike at 229-221-2110.

Cairo AA group meets at 8 p.m. Fridays with an open speaker, 8 p.m. Sundays with open discussion, 8 p.m. Mondays with closed discussion and 8 p.m. Wednesdays are newcomers meetings with closed discussion. All meetings are held at 3351 U.S. Hwy. 84 East, Cairo.

The Rose City Coin Club meets the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m., at the Thomas County Public Library.

The Rose City Symphonic Band rehearses from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturdays at the Thomas County Middle School band room. Membership is open to any musician 16 and older that plays a band instrument.  No audition required. Weight Watchers meets at 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Thursdays and at 8 a.m., Saturdays at 94 Commercial Drive. Weigh-in starts 30 minutes before each meeting.

Newcomers Club meets at 9:30 a.m., every third Thursday of the month. New residents and neighbors should come to the Cultural Center for coffee and doughnuts. RSVP by calling (229) 226-0588.

A support group called MOMS for Mothers of Military Servicemen/Women meets at 9:30 a.m., the second Saturday of every month at Relish. For information, call 228-4553.

The UFO Discussion Group is in need of new members. The group, open to the public, meets at noon, the second Saturday of the month at the Thomas County Public Library. For information, call 228-1204.

The Thomas County branch of NAACP holds its monthly meetings at 6 p.m., are the second Thursday of each month at the Frederick Douglass Complex.

Members of the Thomas County Democratic Party meet at 6:30 p.m., the first Tuesday of every month at Fallin's Barbecue.

Families Anonymous meetings are at 7 p.m., each Monday at the Milton-Everett YMCA board of directors room. For information, call 224-0230.

The Thomasville Multiple Sclerosis self-help group meets at 6 p.m., the third Tuesday of every month at the Plaza. The meeting is to bring area people together to discuss their issues in coping with the disease and the organization. Family members and caregivers can attend. The Country Hoedown, formerly known as The Meigs Country Hoedown, is at the corner of Sapp and Burnum (Mt. Olive Road), in Pelham every Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. There is live country music for line and couple dancing with no door charge but donations are welcome. Thomasville Masonic Lodge No. 369 meets on second and fourth Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.

Plantation Manor Assisted Living Community seeks volunteers of all ages for its Gracious Living (Alzheimer's/dementia) wing. The volunteers will assist with the activities program. For information call Gail Davis or Betty Sawyer at 227-0880.

The Thomasville Noon Lions Club meets at noon the second and fourth Tuesdays at the Plaza.

VFW Post 4995 and its auxiliary meet every third Saturday at 9 a.m. at the post home at 1296 Old Cassidy Rd.

VFW Post 8433 meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Roddenbery Memorial Library Annex in Cairo.

Hands and Hearts for Horses, a therapeutic riding program for children and adults with disabilities, is in need of volunteers. Volunteer training classes are held the first Monday of every month. For information, call Kirsten at 551-0086.

The Pilot Club holds a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m., the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Plaza.

The James Hicks American Legion Post No. 519 members and auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday at the American Legion home on Hopkins Street. The executive committee meets at 7 p.m. the Tuesday preceding the monthly meeting.

The VFW Post No. 11088 members and auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the senior center on Stevens Street.

Halcyon Home provides outreach support groups for victims of domestic violence. For information, call 226-6666 for location and time.

S.P. Jones Lodge No. 118 F&AM PHA meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 8 p.m. at 518 Lester St.
