THOMASVILLE — Today

6 p.m. — Overeaters Anonymous meets at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in the Guild Room. There are no dues or fees and is open to men and women. For information, call 226-0556 or 377-4995.

Wednesday

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Southern Pines is holding a seasonal flu shot clinic in the clubhouse. The event is open to the community and features a complimentary lunch. To register, call 226-6074.

Thursday

10 a.m. — Golden K Kiwanis Club meets at Dawson Street Baptist Church.

12:30 p.m. — The Thomasville Rotary Club meets at the Plaza.

2 p.m. — The Thomasville-Thomas County Retired Educators Association meets at the Thomas County Public Library. All retired educators should attend. Please bring school supplies to be given to students in both systems. Also, each member is asked to bring a dime or two to gon in their Dream Dimes for Local Charity bottles. Thomas County School Superintendent Dr. Dusty Kornegay is the speaker. Group one is to provide the refreshmens and door prizes and dues for 2013-2014 are ue..

5:45 p.m. — Early bird Bingo games, sponsored by the Kouncil Club of Thomasville, are at St. Augustine Catholic Church social hall. Regular Bingo sessions begin at 6:45. Prizes awarded and proceeds go to local charities of southwest Georgia.

6 p.m. — Cairo New Beginnings Group of Overeaters Anonymous meets at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 11th Ave. N.W., Cairo. For information, call Aileen at 378-0341 or Brenda at 377-4995.

The descendants of Wiley and Elizabeth Stephens and their children, Bithenia, Catherine, George Henry, Sarah Elizabeth and their families are holding their annual family reunion on Sept. 28 in the fellowship hall of The Connection Church, 2123 Smith Ave. Fellowship and set up begins at 11 a.m. and a covered dish lunch is at 12:30 p.m. Attendees should bring some of their family's favorite foods. Halcyon Home is holding a kickoff rally for Domestic Violence Awareness Month at 11:30 a.m., Oct. 5 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. At 6:30 p.m., Oct. 18, is a silent march followed by a candlelight vigil also at St. Thomas.

Members of the Thomasville High School class of 1958 are planning an informal get-together for their 55th anniversary celebration. The event is 4 p.m. — until on Friday, Sept. 27 and 10 a.m. — until on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Thomasville Shrine Club lake house, on U.S. 19 South. There are no scheduled events, and no sit-down meals are planned, so you don't need reservations or money in advance. Refreshments will be on hand and meals can be by either heading to a restaurant, or send out and pick up food (like subs, chicken strips, etc.), on a pay-as-you-go basis. Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Monday for big book study, beginners meetings are held at 8 p.m., Tuesday and 8 p.m., Saturday is open discussion all at Trinity Anglican Church on West Jackson Street. At noon, on Wednesday is big book study and Friday is open discussion both at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Al-Anon meets at 8 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays at Trinity Anglican Church. The Thomasville group meets at 8 p.m., Monday which is a closed big book meeting. At 8 p.m., Tuesday is an open beginners meeting and at 8 p.m., Saturday is open discussion all held at Trinity Anglican Church. It's in the Book group, a closed men's meeting at 7 p.m., Wednesday at 7 p.m., Friday, is a closed big book step study at New Generation Church. A closed meeting is at 1 p.m., Wednesdays at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.

Alcoholics Anonymous (Grace Group) holds a closed meeting at noon, Wednesday which is big book study and Friday is open discussion at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 216 Remington Ave.

The Cairo Al-anon Family Group offers help and hope. No fees, dues, or registration required. The meetings are at 3351 U.S. Hwy. 84 East, Cairo. For more information, contact Mike at 229-221-2110.

Cairo AA group meets at 8 p.m. Fridays with an open speaker, 8 p.m. Sundays with open discussion, 8 p.m. Mondays with closed discussion and 8 p.m. Wednesdays are newcomers meetings with closed discussion. All meetings are held at 3351 U.S. Hwy. 84 East, Cairo.

The Rose City Coin Club meets the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m., at the Thomas County Public Library.

The Rose City Band rehearses Saturday mornings at the Thomasville Scholars Academy band room from 10 a.m. to noon. The group is open to area musicians 16 years and older who have previous band experience and can sight read. For information, call Thomas Wagner at 977-1402 or gibbtvl@rose.net.

The Thomas County branch of NAACP holds its monthly meetings at 6 p.m., are the second Thursday of each month at the Frederick Douglass Complex.

The Thomasville Multiple Sclerosis self-help group meets at 6 p.m., the third Tuesday of every month in the Flipper Room at the Thomas County Public Library. The meeting is to bring area people together to discuss their issues in coping with the disease and the organization. Family members and caregivers can attend. The Country Hoedown, formerly known as The Meigs Country Hoedown, is at the corner of Sapp and Burnum (Mt. Olive Road), in Pelham every Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. There is live country music for line and couple dancing with no door charge but donations are welcome. Thomasville Masonic Lodge No. 369 meets on second and fourth Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.

Plantation Manor Assisted Living Community seeks volunteers of all ages for its Gracious Living (Alzheimer's/dementia) wing. The volunteers will assist with the activities program. For information call Gail Davis or Betty Sawyer at 227-0880.

The Thomasville Noon Lions Club meets at noon the second and fourth Tuesdays at the Plaza.

VFW Post 4995 and its auxiliary meet every third Saturday at 9 a.m. at the post home at 1296 Old Cassidy Rd.

VFW Post 8433 meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Roddenbery Memorial Library Annex in Cairo.

Hands and Hearts for Horses, a therapeutic riding program for children and adults with disabilities, is in need of volunteers. Volunteer training classes are held the first Monday of every month. For information, call Kirsten at 551-0086.

The Pilot Club holds a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m., the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Plaza.

The James Hicks American Legion Post No. 519 members and auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday at the American Legion home on Hopkins Street. The executive committee meets at 7 p.m. the Tuesday preceding the monthly meeting.

The VFW Post No. 11088 members and auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the senior center on Stevens Street.
