LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Council overrules will of the people

On May 20, I was fortunate to witness the celebration and significance of that day, Emancipation Day.  Our freedom was proclaimed and we were no longer slaves.

Only on May 21, I attended a Thomasville City Council meeting where all the rights of Emancipation Day were shattered by the men on stage, men who were elected to represent and do what's rights and good for the people. Not only did they disrespect the people who elected them, but they completely went against the decision rendered by the planning and zoning board.

Ninety-five percent of the residents in Dewey City were not in agreeable with a ruling that our councilman was seeking for personal gain. Guess what? He was granted what he requested — permission to build a triplex in our historic neighborhood. Can anyone explain when a decision by five individuals overrules the will of the people directly affected by said decision?

It's sad how some choose to focus so much attention in the decisions made in Washington yet are unconcerned with what's going on right here in our faces.  Sadder still is that some have no intention of looking because we put our trust in these men.

Citizens, please attend the city council meetings! They are seemingly so well rehearsed it is amazing. Decisions are made prior to the meetings, even during council workshops. It's clearly seen.

Let’s get active and become aware of the things around us.  Think and do right with one another.

Politicians are among my favorite people. However, I do believe God has a special section reserved for them on Judgment Day.
