Baseball showcase for underclassmen June 9

Staff report

— The Georgia Dugout Club (State’s Baseball Coaches’ Association) will again put on the Georgia Underclassman Top 100 Showcase throughout the state during June.

The underclassman event is one of the most popular high school baseball events in the country, attracting more than 100 college and pro scouts on an annual basis. Since 2003, the Georgia Underclassman has had hundreds of rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders participate that go on to play college or pro baseball.

The most notable Top 100 alumni includes 2008 No. 1 draft pick Timothy Beckham (Griffin), 2010 National League Rookie of the Year Buster Posey (Lee County), 2013 No. 5 draft pick Clint Frazier (Loganville) and 2013 No. 9 draft pick Austin Meadows (Grayson).

The Georgia Underclassman Scout Committee, made up of pro scouts and college Coaches, travels the state to evaluate players participating in a pro-style workout at dregional sites. From the twelve regional sites, 100 upcoming seniors along, with 60 upcoming juniors and Sophomores, will be chosen to participate in a final event at Georgia Gwinnett College in late June.

All players that attend a regional site are graded out by the Scout Committee and their data is posted on the player’s individual player profile. The player profiles store valuable information, academic/transcript, highlight videos and season-by-season statistics that each player can then email to college coaches around the state with the Georgia Underclassman Recruiting System. This helps each player participating in Georgia underclassman event in the recruiting process and gives them a tool to utilize year round while contacting the colleges that they have interest in attending.

The Georgia Underclassman Top 100 Showcase will be at Valdosta State University on June 9 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
