Hope for our world

— Hope is a shining star God has set blazing in the darkest night. Hope keeps us going when all the points of reason are stacked against us. Hope can stare down medical science, economic disaster or mounting evidence to the contrary. Hope enables us to cling to the broken pieces of the ship of life when the waves would overwhelm us. Hope believes the  unbelievable, latches onto the tiniest thread for support and dares to dream of a better tomorrow when all the voices of impending disaster predict a storm.

Paul included hope in his magnificent manifesto of indestructible human resources. “And now abideth, faith, hope and love, these three . . .” Yes, there are some things that are always available to our minds and hearts. Hope is one of these possessions.

Someone once asked a successful person how they achieved so much. He answered, “I prepare for the worst, hope for the best and make the most of every day.” That is not a bad philosophy of life. It definitely includes hope.

Christians have more reason to hope than any other class of people. Our hope grows out of our faith. Our faith enables us to link up with our Creator and the Lord of life. In Him there is hope — hope for our world, hope for America and hope for our individual lives.

Simon Peter declared, “Praise be to God . . . he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
