Ward recalls 1993 national title

PASADENA, Calif. — Twenty years before Florida State faced Auburn Monday night searching for its third national title, the Seminoles won their first behind the play of Heisman-winning quarterback Charlie Ward.

The program has another Heisman winner in Jameis Winston in 2013 and Ward reminisced on how life changed.

Ward, of Thomasville, explained, "It was big for everybody. Sometimes you don't fully understand it until like now, 20 years later you have the opportunity to be a part of potentially another national championship. Twenty years ago you can say you were the first.

"It's big whenever you win any kind of championship. The level of everything heightens. Everyone is known on campus and in the community. Then again, there's the expectation the following year that you have to repeat or work toward what you finished the previous year."
