TU hoops win doubleheader

Lady Night Hawks victorious in final home game; men win finale

THOMASVILLE —

Based on Coretta Brown’s demeanor throughout Thomas’ 67-52 win over Warner on Wednesday, you would’ve thought her team was in a drastic deficit.

The Lady Night Hawks’ basketball coach prowled the sidelines like a lurking wolf in a game where her team consistently held a double-digit second half lead.

Brown broached that her team’s primary struggle this season was keeping an aggressive outset through all 40 minutes. The Lady Night Hawks have outscored theirsevles in the second half many times this season, Brown said.

“If I want to get these kids to buy into what I’m saying, I’ve got to stay true to what I say, and all season long I’ve been saying that we’ve got to play a 40-minute games,” Brown said. “If I’m expecting my players to play 40 minutes, then I’ve got to coach for 40 minutes.”

Though Thomas started somewhat slow by Brown’s measures – 24 points to Warner’s 17 at the half – she was impressed with how her unit maintained their halftime cushion.

Thomas trampled from the locker room and churned out a 20-8 run to start the second half, before running away with the 15-point victory.

“I tell my team all the time that it’s not about the scoreboard,” Brown said. “‘Strive to do your best every single possession.’”

The Lady Night Hawks were 55 percent from the floor behind leading scorer Taylor Britt (14 points) and the physicality from Miracle Watts.

The Thomas girls close the season on Saturday at Webber International.

The boys again found themselves in a tight tilt in their 76-66 win.

Coach Stephen Cox’s squad jumped out to a 10-2 lead but allowed Warner to quickly creep back. The Royals went on a 10-4 run within four minutes before taking the lead on a series of three-pointers midway through the first half.
