Ryals to host 10th annual youth camp

Thomasville coach Leroy Ryals has slated his tenth annual youth football camp from Tuesday, May 27 through Saturday, May 31.

The five-day event will take place at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the Scholars Academy campus, and run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Saturday halts at noon).

“It’s more than just a football, on-the-field camp,” Ryals said. “It’s as much about character education, academics and sportsmanship.”

Ryals opened the camp while coaching in Martin County, Fla. but his goal of doing so initiated  during his days as an LSU assistant coach under Nick Saban.

“The blueprint I use now is the one he had at youth camps back then,” Ryals said of the four-time national champion coach.

Ryals’ camp will not feature much contact, and allow kids to choose various drills based on positions they play.

Ryals is incorporating a pre-registration day to coincide with Thomasville’s Red and Gold spring football game on Saturday, May 3. Campers who pre-register can receive a $10 discount on the $100 registration cost.
