Vehicle struck, overturns on Smith Avenue

THOMASVILLE — Paramedics and the Thomasville Police Department responded within minutes Monday morning after a two-car accident occured at the intersection of Smith Avenue and Broad Street. According to TPD Lt. Eric Hampton, the driver of a GMC Envoy, Ronald Bennett, was traveling north bound on Smith Avenue and a 1996 Ford F-150 were traveling in the same direction on Broad Street. The driver of the Ford, Chad Hikox of Thomasville, said that a mechanical issue caused the brakes on his vehicle to fail. Hikox drove through the red light at the intersection and struck Bennett, causing the GMC to turn over on its side. Bennett complained of pain in his arm but was not transported to the hospital. No other injuries were reported. Hikox was charged with failure to obey a traffic control device.
