Walk-in WIC Wednesday set for March 26 at health department

Staff report

THOMASVILLE — The Thomas County Health Department has scheduled “Walk-In Wednesday” at its WIC office on March 26 to help qualified patients enroll in the nutrition program.

“Walk-ins will be welcome from 7:30 a.m. through 3 p.m.,” said event spokesperson Marie Bennett. “If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have children up to age 5, we’ll help you sign up.”

Parents on Medicaid automatically qualify, Bennett said. “Please call Sandra Anderson or Michelle Scott 229-226-4250 to see if you are income-eligible,” she said.

Current information — no more than 30 days old — patients should bring to Walk-In Wednesday includes:

· Driver’s license

· Social Security card

· Immunization record

· Birth certificate

In addition, Bennett said parents should bring proof of household income, such as a Medicaid Card, paycheck stub, a letter from an employer or an unemployment notice.

The last item needed is a proof of street address. “It can be an electric bill, rent or mortgage receipt or a cable TV or phone bill, Bennett said.

Georgia WIC is the nation’s fifth largest special supplemental nutrition program for woman, infants and children. Its goal is to keep breastfeeding women and children under 5 healthy. However, men who meet income qualifications who have children under 5 may enroll their children to receive benefits.
