Thief wastes no time using stolen credit cards

THOMASVILLE — It all happened very quickly.

A woman’s wallet was stolen in a Thomasville store, and stolen credit cards were used at the business before the victim realized she had been robbed.

A 79-year-old woman was shopping at Walmart about 1 p.m. on a recent day, when her wallet was stolen from her purse.

The open purse was in a shopping cart with the wallet was in plain view, said Louis Schofill, a Thomasville Police Department detective.

“She (the suspect) began using them (credits cards) immediately in the store,” the detective said.

The suspect purchased multiple gift cards and electronics at Walmart while the victim continued to shop, unaware she had been robbed until she reached the check-out.

To date, the suspect has charged $3,000 worth of clothing, gift cards, electronics and a computer on the woman’s credit cards here and in Valdosta.

Police used store video to track the woman to purchases she made in the store and into the parking lot.

Schofill described the woman as black, thin, with long black hair. She was driving a four-door, mid-size silver or gray car.

Anyone knowing the identity of the woman is asked to contact police at 227-3305.

”We hate to see people prey on the elderly. It’s unacceptable to law enforcement,” the detective said.

Schofill advised people to keep their eyes open, to never let down their guard and to be aware of activity around them.

“If you see something, say something,” he said.
