Dollar General manager in Meigs charged with theft

THOMASVILLE — The former manager of the Dollar General store at Meigs has been charged with felony theft by taking.

Dollar General conducted an internal investigation that showed money was missing, said Lt. Tim Watkins, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office chief investigator.

Jamie Carter James, store manager, was arrested.

“She had been kiting money through deposits,” Watkins explained. The suspect hid the theft by altering bank deposit slips, the investigator added.

The Dollar General investigation showed $2,100 was taken from the store.

“It happened over a period of time,” Watkins said

Another employee was charged with taking less money and paid the money back, Watkins said.

Two other employees were fired when it was learned they knew about the thefts but did not report the activity.

James, 31, 247 Millpond Road, Lot No. 2, Pelham, was released from the Thomas County Jail on a $2,600 bond.
