CAIRO — The Grady County Fine Arts Council Inc. recently presented an afternoon of puppetry, under the direction of Mary K. Stovall, at the Roddenberry Memorial Library in Cairo

A number of Cairo Housing Authority residents participated in the program.  Students wrote their own scripts, and presented the same in skits and stories based on their originally penned works.  Their works were presented with the use of puppets as an artistic expression.

The program opened with “The Spider & the Fly,” written by Mary Howitt and presented by Quincy Ball, Mary K. Stovall and Audrey MaGee; “Happy & Grumpy” was written and presented by Richard Jones; “Home for Christmas” was written and presented by Tylicia McGriff; “A Christmas Gift” was written and presented by Savannah Smart; “Maybe No Christmas” was written and presented by Zy’Kerria Jones; “Sally Finds a Way” was written and presented by Kamariah and Layla Bennettl and finally, “What is Christmas?” was written and presented by Michaela Ball.

Officials said the students improved their reading and writing skills and the program helpe dprepare fifth-grade participants’ for the Georgia State Writing Assessment Exam and the CRCT Exam. Students are now preparing for their spring performance.
