Stage set for annual Camellia Show

THOMASVILLE — Members of the local garden clubs are preparing for the annual Camellia Show, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9 from 1:30 p.m.-5 p.m. at the Thomasville Garden Center. The show is sponsored by Thomasville Garden Club Inc. in cooperation with the American Camellia Society. Members of the Rambler Rose Garden Club are in charge of the show with help from the Briarcliff and Killarney Queen garden clubs.

Mention camellias in any conversation these days, and you’re likely to hear “the prettiest I’ve seen in years” or “gorgeous.” Due to this year’s mild winter, camellias have been especially beautiful these past few weeks.

“Many varieties are still covered with buds and will continue to bloom through February and into March,” Pat Johnson, chairman of the show, said. “With the many protected entries often brought by judges, we can look forward to a beautiful show.”

The event is open to all.

See Friday's edition for more details.
