Volunteers learn on Earth Day

THOMASVILLE — Members of Thomasville High School AFJROTC helped out at the Thomasville Recycle Center aka the Community Education Garden on Tuesday, which was Earth Day.

As part of Volunteer Week, the group and their instructor Lt. Col. Stann McLeod learned how to make compost. Keep Thomas County Beautiful volunteer Bob Dysterhouse taught the students how to make compost using roughage such as vegetables, fruit and brown leaves.

The students layered leaves and chopped up roughage to make compost for planting. After making compost, the students picked up litter nearby the recycle center to help keep Thomas County beautiful.
