Burns takes Cairo helm

CAIRO — Bobby Burns  Sr. as sworn in as mayor of Cairo at Monday evening’s city council meeting.

Jimmy Douglas and Ernest W. Cloud Jr., were also sworn in as council members..

Councilman Lannis Thornton was nominated as mayor pro tem by Douglas and the motion was seconded by Cloud. The vote was unanimous.

Burns is waiting to discuss the city’s needs with City Manager Chris Addleton before he begins making priorities.

Now that Burns is mayor he said not much is different.

“I’m just still Bobby. It’s weird being called mayor now, but I’ll get used to it,” said Burns.

Burns won the November election after intially believing he had suffered a three-vote defeat to his opponent Charles Renaud. The next day, after a counting error was discovered, Burns won the election with 408 votes to Renaud’s 397.
