THS student arrested on weapons charge

Staff report

THOMASVILLE — A 16-year-old Thomasville High school student was charged Tuesday with possession of a weapon on school property.

A Thomasville police officer assigned to the school was investigating a stolen cell phone Tuesday morning when it was discovered the student being questioned had a pocket knife concealed in her book bag.

“The student said the knife was for protection, that she has been harassed by males as she walks home from school,” said Lt. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.

The student has not threatened anyone at school with the knife, Hampton said.

Incidents of after-school harassment have not been reported to school officials or police, but the teen’s complaint is being investigated.
