Murphy retires from Flowers

THOMASVILLE — Flowers Foods recently recognized contributions of Margaret Black Murphy, who retired from her position as senior administrative assistant after more than 45 years with the company.

Murphy began her career with Flowers in 1968 as a fleet clerk.

During her 45 years of service, she provided support to the company’s executive, sales and human resources teams.

She served as administrative assistant for many of Flowers’ top executives, including William H. Flowers Jr., R.G. Fleetwood and Curtis Chapman.

For more than 20 years, she served as administrative assistant to Heeth Varnedoe III, president and chief operating officer.

In later years, Murphy provided administrative support to the company’s executive team.
