Commission honors T-E Coach of the Year

THOMASVILLE — Thomas County commissioners recently approved a proclamation honoring Leroy Ryals, Thomasville High School head football coach and athletic director, on his selection as the Times-Enterprise All-Area Coach of the Year.

Ryals received a bachelor’s degree in business at the University of South Florida in 1996, and a master’s in counseling at the University of Florida in 2001.

A native of Sarasota, Fla., Ryals and his wife, the former Keisha Carithers, of Athens, have three children.

Ryals is the 21st Bulldog head coach.

According to the county commission proclamation, under Ryals’ leadership, the Bulldogs have been rejuvenated during his first season as head coach and athletic director, and he led the team to the second round of Class AA playoffs.

Ryals is known for the importance of teaching proper values to the young men he coaches, the proclamation says.
