Thomas County commissioners Tuesday approved spending $16,000 to contract for preparation for an Insurance Services Office (ISO) inspection of the Thomas County Fire Department in early 2013.
The contract with National Fire Service Office in Sylvania will take the county fire department through the ISO inspection and changes called for in the inspection report.
Water sites for fire-fighting purposes will be certified, including dry hydrants — when a water source is other than a hydrant, such as a lake or pond.
The Sylvania company is nearing the end of a study of the county fire department and Thomasville Fire Rescue to determine the possibility of sharing resources.
