THOMASVILLE — A number of checks stolen from a Thomasville business are being sought.

The owner of a Campbell Street business discovered a payroll check missing from his desk Monday morning.

“He couldn’t find it and went to the bank and did a stop payment,” said Lt. Tim Watkins, Thomas County Sheriff’s office chief investigator.

While the businessman was the bank, he learned someone was in Boston trying to cash a company check for $2,600. The presenter left, and the check was left behind.

Watkins said businesses or others who cash checks should be on the lookout for checks on Gross Vault & Monument and HGN Investments.

Anyone being presented with one of the checks should call 911.

Watkins said efforts should be made to stall the presenter of the check, and the check should be retained, if possible.

Identification presented by the individual should be kept. Attempts should be made to get a tag number and a physical description of the presenter.
