Teen charged in burglaries

THOMASVILLE — A 17-year-old high school student was charged with burglary after law enforcement officers learned the suspect might have stolen items in his vehicle.

Lawmen found items stolen from the Camilla Walmart in a vehicle belonging to Christopher Chasen Clanton, Plantation Woods.

Clanton was questioned as a possible suspect in a Northwoods subdivision burglary that took place several weeks ago.

The teen admitted burglarizing three Thomas County churches Sunday night or early Monday morning, said Capt. Steven Jones, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office public information officer.

“He committed the fourth one Wednesday morning while we were looking for him,” Jones said, adding that Clanton also confessed to the fourth church burglary at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church on Springhill Road.

Clanton was a suspect in residential burglaries in unincorporated Thomas County and in Thomasville. He has been questioned by city police in connection with the city incidents.

Officers have recovered from Clanton’s belongings tools believed to have been used in the burglaries. Jones said the tools included a sledgehammer.

Clanton was released from the Thomas County Jail Friday afternoon on a $10,000 bond.
